Sports Massage

Now the most popular, sports massage is a mixed application of massage techniques, range of motion/flexibility tests and strength-training principles utilized to achieve a specific goal when treating a client.

This treatment is not just for the sports person: anyone can benefit from sports massage, including people in physically demanding jobs and those not quite so obvious (occupational, emotional and postural stress may produce many similar characteristics to sports injuries).

Sports massage tends to be even deeper and more intense. It is based on the various elements of Swedish massage and often incorporates a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, friction, toning, and trigger point response techniques similar to Acupressure and Shiatsu. Andy brings together his blend of techniques; knowledge and advice during treatment, to work effectively with you and give you optimum performance; help prevent injury from training and minimize post event injuries.

Sports massage is far from comfortable and has been described by some clients as "good pain", but the benefits are endless!

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage uses strokes similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension.

The focus is on the realignment of deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

This is perfect for getting rid of those unwanted knots in high tension areas. Because the pressure of deep tissue massage is greater, it can be a little uncomfortable at times, but you'll feel the benefits as soon as it's finished.

Cupping Session

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction.

People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, increase blood flow, relaxation and well-being, recovery and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

As the air inside the cup is removed, it creates a vacuum. This causes your skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for 5 minutes.

If needed (or wanted), Andy will use a small amount of lotion on the skin, enabling him to slide the cups from place to place for a massage-like effect.

Cupping causes the skin to temporarily turn red, blue or purple, especially if there is an injury or energetic blockage under the area that was cupped. The skin discoloration can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, but is rarely painful. Once the marks have cleared, the procedure can be repeated until the condition or ailment is resolved.
